GalaBingoLogo-RGB_Jan09The Gala Bingo site in Dartford has been put on the market, reports local paper, Kent Online.

The site is being marketed by a firm that specialises in churches and other buildings that serve as places of worship.

Alex Martin Property has released a sales brochure for the building on Spital Street.

The building is on the market for £3 million.

The agent responsible for the marketing of the building, Alex Dawson, confirmed that he is marketing the building to faith organisations. He told Kent Online that he had indeed received interest from local church groups.

The sales brochure states: “The property which was originally constructed as a cinema is designed on ground, basement and three upper floors.

“The building is not listed but it is in a conservation area however, the local authority are very flexible in this regard, indeed they have permitted the demolition of the former courts unit to the left hand facing side of the subject property.

“We estimate that the current building could provide seating for up to 2,000 worshippers.”

Staff were reportedly told about the sale in June.

Jeremy Kite, Dartford council leader, said that he became aware of the sale on Tuesday morning. However, he hoped that it was a marketing exercise.

“I’m disappointed to hear the building is up for sale,” he said. “My main concern is with the staff and that they will be looked after properly and given the information they need.

“I hope this is just an exercise in testing the market. There have been changes in the market in gambling and a lot of it has moved online so I know a lot of bingo halls are shutting across the country.”

Gala Bingo have yet to comment on the sale.
