Celebrities have amazing lives, and never is that more clear than when they let us take a peek into their homes. We are all so fascinated by photos of celebrity homes that we will check our article after article, just to marvel at the luxury on display – even if the celebrity has moved out and put the home on the market.

In fact, that’s one of the main ways we see into celebrity homes, and in this article, that’s no exception. These homes are or were on the market, usually following some big life changes. So let’s look at these amazing celebrity homes and the stories behind them.

Katy Perry’s Los Feliz, Los Angeles, home

Katy and Russell bought this Medierranean style home with the best of intentions, but when their marriage fell apart, Katy dumped this gigantic Los Angeles mansion. Despite the two guest houses and the lagoon-style pool, she must have seen reminders of Russell everywhere, which could be why she put the home on the market for nearly $6.5 million (when it had been worth nearly $7 million).

Matt Damon’s Miami Beach home

Matt didn’t go through anything so dramatic when he put this home on the market for a whopping $20 million. It sits directly on the Biscayne Bay, and it has a home cinema, a two-bed guest house, a rooftop terrace and a giant pool with pool house.

Drew Barrymore’s Santa Barbara home

She married her husband, art consultant Will Kopelman, in this home’s back garden, but it seems Drew wants a new venue for their life together, as she put this 6000 square foot property up for sale. It could be yours for about $7.5 million. And who doesn’t have that just laying around?

The MiC house shared by The Lost Boys

Believe it or not, the house once shared by Proudlock, Jamie and Francis is now on the market. It’s not far from Parsons Green Tube station, and it has three bedrooms. It’s not clear if the painting which melts the boys’ three faces into one portrait, will be sold with the house, but you could probably negotiate for it. If you really wanted it.

Elton John’s Chelsea penthouse

If minimalist elegance is more your style, you’ll love Elton John’s penthouse in Chelsea. The two or three bed flat takes up the entire 15th floor of the Belvedere Building, and it only costs £4.3 million. It’s practically a bargain.

Mel Gibson’s Malibu home

This huge compound includes three guest houses, a lighted tennis court, a garden cabana and much more. Still, Mel had had trouble shifting it, first putting it on the market in March 2010 for $14.5 million. He finally got it off his hands in September of 2012, when he knocked the price down to $9.2 million.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Malibu home

It must be something about the neighbourhood: Leo had trouble shifting his Malibu home, too. He first tried to rent it out, but the $75,000 a month price tag was too much for anyone to take him up on the offer. In November of 2012, he decided to cut his losses and sell it for $23 million, but still no one bit. It wasn’t until a year later, and a price tag of $17.23 million, that he was finally able to get the home off his hands.

Oprah Winfrey’s Chicago home

As she was based in Chicago, Oprah had a bit of a hobby buying up properties around the city. Now that her insanely influential chat show is off the air, she is selling off all those properties, including this one, in the beaux arts style.

Britney Spears’ Malibu home

Like Katy and Russell, Britney bought this home to start a new life with her then-husband, Kevin Federline. We all know how that worked out, and she put this home on the market. It was snapped up by The Mummy director Stephen Sommers, who is now selling it again. It will set you back $13.5 million, but for that money you get a games room, a tennis court and resort-style pool, a recording studio and a dance studio.

Pharrell Williams’ Miami home

Pharrell originally put his three-floor Miami penthouse on the market for $216.8 million, but as he didn’t get any takers, he bumped the price down to just $10.9 million. It has a private access lift, a 180-degree wraparound balcony and rooftop terraces, five bedrooms and floor-to-ceiling glass walls.

Hilary Swank’s Pacific Palisades home

Hilary bought this Mediterranean style getaway in March 2007, and she had architect Marc Appleton restore it. Still, it’s got many of its original or at least period-correct features, including brightly coloured tiles, beamed ceilings and wrought iron work. Its appliances, security system and conveniences are all completely modern, however.
