The sun hat got his hat on, which means you’ve got your flip flops and sandals on! If your tootsies could do with some TLC before they make their public début this summer, don’t spend megabucks on a professional job, instead why not get summer sandal-ready with our perfect DIY pedi? Go on, put your feet up, give yourself an at home spa treatment and let that nail polish dry with a game of free bingo. But first things first…

1. Buff

Let’s get your feet soft, supple and ready for action. The first step is giving them a good old buff. You can use a foot file (don’t choose a metal one, these are much too harsh) or a pumice to do the job, but make sure you sand down your clodhoppers while they’re dry – not wet. This will make sure you can really get in there and get rid of all that dry skin.

2. Soak

With all that strenuous buffing done, it’s time to relax with a nice warm foot soak (this is where that round of free bingo comes in!). Fill a basin with warm water and add a foot soak (Tidy Mom has an amazing DIY lime and mint version you can make yourself). Then sit backand relax for at least 10 minutes. If your little angels have any marbles lying around, nab them and pop them in the bottom of the basin. Pop your feet on top and roll them around for a DIY massage! Bliss!

3. Scrub

Now it’s scrubbing time! Use a foot scrub to give your damp feet a rigorous scrubbing to get rid of the last of that dead skin. Then rinse. There are loads of brilliant DIY foot scrubs out there, here are a few of our favorites:

4. Nailcare

Dry off your tootsies and turn your attention to your toenails. Gently ease back your cuticles with a cuticle stick, then cut your toenails using small snips to ensure you don’t crack or split your nail (avoid clippers at all costs!). Finally give them a buff with a nail file to smooth any sharp edges.

5. Massage

With your nails looking lovely, treat yourself to a relaxing foot rub using a rich moisturizer. Cocoa butter is perfect for the job. If you’re feeling especially decadent, perform this step just before bedtime, then wrap your moisturized feet in clingfilm and pop on some socks over the top before turning out the light to make sure that moisture really soaks in.

Et voilà! Lovely, soft and pretty feet, ready to look sensational in your new summer shoes! Do you have any pedicure tips to add to our list? Share them  with our readers below of drop the team a tweet@TwoLittleFleas
