It has been exactly six months to the day when The Great British Bake Off Series 4 ended with Frances taking home the top prize. Unfortunately, that means we’ve had manage without Mary and Paul, and we’ve been unable to watch talented bakers show us what they’ve got.

If, like us, you’re finding it hard to cope without the show, here are some ways you can cope with The Great British Bake Off withdrawal.

Follow GBBO on social media

GBBO Facebook

The Great British Bake Off is naturally on social media. Their Twitter and Facebook accounts are a flurry of activity when the show is on the air. Right now, they post photos of Paul and Mary, but their posts are very occasional – as in, less than monthly.

Still, if you go on there, you may still find some people who are still eager to chat about the show. But really, this is just the starting point. Following their social media accounts now is just a way to be ready for Series 5, in all honesty.

Watch old clips on YouTube

If your Great British Bake Off withdrawal is pretty mild, you can simply remember the best bits with a bit of a YouTube marathon. Click away, and you’ll find yourself inundated with clips from the show (as well as its Sport Relief and Comic Relief versions), baking tutorials and more.

Above is a clip from the amazing hidden design cake challenge. It is so full of drama and surprises, you’ll definitely get your GBBO fix. At least for the time being.

Flip through some Great British Bake Off books

Following the success of the show, both Mary and Paul have released cookery books, and there have been several Great British Bake Off-related titles, featuring the recipes and tips of the judges, as well. You can browse through them at just about any book shop in the country, and you can look at the previews on Amazon, too.

The images and tone of voice will remind you of the gorgeous shots on the show, so you can relive these, the best parts of the show, whenever you want.

Paul and Mary put themselves to the test in this series, which essentially explores how to make the cakes and pies they challenge the GBBO contestants to make. It’s been going for three years now, and it is the perfect way to get used to not watching the bake off. After all, it’s in the GBBO tent, it features the world’s best judges, and it is all about perfecting your baking skills.

The only things that are missing are the drama of baking under intense pressure and Sue Perkins making even the bad times feel a bit better with a well-timed joke.

Get baking yourself

With all these video tutorials, cookery books and tips, you’ll have had access to some of the greatest baking knowledge in the world. So why not put that to good use, and challenge yourself to your own Great British Bake Off? Imagine you hear Sue, Mary and Paul discussing your work as you go to make it feel like you’re really on the show. Watch old clips while you wait for your cake or pie to bake, so you stay in full GBBO mode. Then gather your friends and family, and enjoy the compliments and joyous reactions to your creation.

That should easily see you through til the next series starts. Which is in just four short months’ time, thank goodness.

So what do you think? Are you dying to see the talented bakers back in action? How do you survive your Great British Bake Off withdrawal in the meantime? Let us know in the comments!
