Over 55s are among the happiest people in the country with 75% giving themselves at least 7 out of 10 on a happiness scale, according to figures released today (Thursday 12 September) by twolittlefleas.co.uk.
The research has been released to mark the launch of twolittlefleas.co.uk’s ‘Happiness generator’- which aims to spread a little happiness https://www.twolittlefleas.co.uk/happiness-generator/. It also shows that almost half (49.5%) of 1000 respondents strive to make other people happy, rising to 54% in the over 55s.
More than three quarters of those aged 55 or over (78%) report being happy more often than not, compared to an average of 70% among all age groups. 67% say they’re ‘Glass half full’ people, compared to an average of 58%. And more than three quarters (77%) say happiness is contagious as seeing someone happy makes them feel happy too – compared to an average of 60%.
Savvas Fellas, CEO of Twolittlefleas.co.uk, said: “Our happiness survey shows that the older generation are a happy bunch indeed. But we all have our down days and that’s why we’ve created the Happiness Generator – have a go if you’re in the need of a little pick me up, or send it to a friend if you think it will make them smile. After all, happiness is contagious.”
18-24 year olds say hobbies and sex are their biggest happiness factors (48% and 44% respectively) whereas as we get older (55+) holidays and our children bring us the most joy (64% and 59%). Other things that make over 55s feel happy are pets (45%), their marriage/relationship (57%) and sex (28%).
