Coronation Street: Britain’s longest running and most popular soap opera has been kicking things up a notch this week.

**Warning: Spoiler Alert**

This post contains some spoilers, so don’t read it if you don’t want to know what’s going to happen.

It all started when Maria opened the door to find Marcus full-on engaged with Todd. No one is accusing Maria of having a quiet, simple life, but it seems like this is just one betrayal too many. She slaps Marcus in an angry and public confrontation, telling him in no uncertain terms that they are over.

Samia Ghadie, who plays Maria, has given us some juicy glimpses into Maria’s state of mind, telling SoapLife Magazine, “She’s heading for some sort of breakdown and there’ll be some unexpected behaviour from her. It’s one betrayal too far, so all of her past tragedies will come to a head. She has no trust in anyone anymore. Marcus has shattered her dreams completely.” Does that mean revenge in on the cards? The actress gave a few hints: “She wants to kill him. She’s fuming with them both. She sees them in the street together and presumes they’re now an item, that’s another kick in the teeth.”

But what she actually does remains to be seen.
Elsewhere, the return of Kevin Webster is making some big waves. Tim is so freaked out by Kevin’s return that he realises he has to do something drastic (or as drastic as he can manage) to keep Sally. So he confesses his love, saying “I’ve never actually told you this, but I think that I love you. Sort of.” And he has reason to be intimidated: when they first meet, Kevin tosses Tim out on his ear, thinking he was trying to steal Sally’s TV!

Stella meanwhile worries that she and her daughters Eva and Leanne will be made homeless if Kevin wants his house back. Which is made all the worse, given that Leanne has started to realise she has feelings for Kal – right after Stella confessed to her own feelings for him.

And what about Kevin’s daughter Sophie and her best friend Maddie? How will his return impact their relationship? Will they admit their feelings for each other, or will their romance end before it’s begun?

Does it even matter? After all, Michael Le Vell, who plays Kevin, won a recent court case, and that was to lead to his triumphant return to the soap. But those plans were scarpered when he admitted to taking cocaine during the court case. Corrie bosses decided to sack him, so Kevin is unlikely to stick around for very long. Of course, if Michael can get his life back on track, he may be able to come back, so we can only hope for our sakes and his that he gets the help he needs.

Still, it seems Kevin’s determined to make his time count while he’s there.

We might expect to see some more of Michelle Conner in the meantime, as actress Kym Marsh has recently signed a year-long “mega contract” to stay on the show. So at least we can expect some big story lines for Michelle for a while to come.
