On 18 April 2014, Lucy Beale’s body was discovered on Walford Common. This followed an eventful day where Lucy was caught with drugs in her jewellery box, found getting amorous with Lee and eventually was confronted by her father. This set off a chain reaction of events that led tragically to her death.
So who killed Lucy Beale? Let’s look at the suspects.
The Suspects
Max Branning

One of the key suspects, not least because he was Lucy’s secret lover, Max has been getting very close to DC Emma Summerhayes. Is he really falling for her, or does he just want some inside info on the case to cover his tracks?
Jake Stone

He’s already been arrested for the murder, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. EastEnders bosses have assured fans that this story line will be running until at least February, so it’s unlikely that they caught the killer straight away.
Lauren Branning

Lucy had been sleeping with Lauren’s father Max, so maybe Lauren wanted to teach her former best friend a lesson she wouldn’t forget.
Ian Beale

Ian and his daughter never really got on, and he could have gotten tired of dealing with her drama after so many years. But considering how long and deeply he’s been grieving, we have a hard time believing he could have done it.
Whitney Dean

When Lee chose Lucy over Whitney, it gave Whitney more than enough reason to want to get revenge on Lucy.
Lee Carter

Speaking of Lee Carter, he is an ex-Army man, so he knows how to get lethal. Plus, he’s the new guy in town, which makes him especially suspicious.
Danny Pennant

Danny hasn’t been seen around Walford for a while, after seducing and betraying Lucy. He’s hurt her once before, and he might just have come back to finish her off.
Peter Beale

Peter has always been second best compared to Lucy, and when he heard his father say he preferred Lucy, Peter clearly had enough. Could sibling rivalry have turned into something more deadly?
The verdict
The fact of the matter is, we have many more months to go before we find out what really happened. Some of the soap’s stars are saying fifteen different endings were filmed, and even if that’s not the case, EastEnders boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins could keep rewriting scripts and changing endings up until the big reveal.
As Jacqueline Jossa, who plays Lauren Branning, told the Daily Star, “No one has a clue what’s going on… He [Treadwell-Collins] might change it up. They will probably put it to bed and then another piece of evidence come up and it’ll start up again.”
