The Houses of Parliament

British politicians gamble online whilst working in Westminster, according to a freedom of information request.

The Mail on Sunday reported that there were 3,844,636 attempts to access gaming websites from Parliamentary IT server between January 2013 and January 2014.

Other sites accessed include pornography, dragon role-playing, virtual farming, and an extra marital affair website called Out of Town Affairs, which was accessed 52,375 times in seven months in 2013. In one month it received 289 hits a day, making it more popular than the official Treasury, Ministry of Justice and Department for Education websites.

Jonathan Isaby, of campaign group the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said the findings are unacceptable.

Approximately 5,000 staff – including more than 1,100 MPs and peers – work in Westminster.

A Commons spokesman said the figures may include pop-up adverts, which are recorded as page views.

He said: “Some sites use an auto-refresh tool which keeps reloading elements of a page without the user clicking any buttons.”

Outside of the House, politicians have been spending time gambling online and watching pornography.
