Let’s face it, a garden bench can be a pretty big investment, especially when you can only really sit on it (without getting a soggy bottom) for about 4 months of the year. But with the sun shining and the birds singing, now’s the perfect time to get outside and get stuck into a good old DIY project.

1. The one hour bench

Don’t believe you can build a good looking bench in an hour? Think again! This cinder block beauty just needs a few cushions and blankets to spruce it up and hey presto! The perfect perch is all yours.

2. The £20 bench

All you’ll need to build this baby are few blocks of concrete – it really couldn’t be simpler. The trick is to find (or sew) a perfectly sized outdoor cushion and to spruce your new bench up with some soft furnishings.

3. The pallet perch

Old wooden pallets are easy to get hold of and simplicity itself to turn into, well, almost anything. These perfect benches have been made from piled and nailed pallets, topped with nice squishy cushions. What could be better? It’s a breeze!

4. The two-chair bench

Got some old furniture lying around at home? Spotted some cool old chairs in a charity shop? Snaffle them up along with some planks to create this beauty of a garden bench! Here’s how it’s done.

5. The bed bench
