Ireland hosted the first ever Drive-in-Bingo on Sunday, reports the Leinster Express.
Novice and experienced bingo players arrived by car in their hundreds and honked their horns and flashed their lights to claim their bingo prizes.
The event was held in the O’Moore Park, the GAA stadium in Portlaoise, County Laois, which is the home of the Laois Gaelic football and hurling teams.
The caller announced the numbers by speaker to the crowd in their cars, and for those that came on foot; they had marquees to shelter under.
The jackpot was €4,900, and book prices ranged from: Single €6, Double €10, and two Jackpot Fliers were €3 each.
The event was to raise money for three local groups: the Portlaoise GAA Club, Portlaoise Musical Society and MS Ireland.
The Fundraising Executive of MS Ireland, Annette McCaul, thanked the people from Laois and the surrounding counties who turned out to show their support by playing the Drive-in-Bingo.
She said: “None of this would have been possible without the Volunteers who delivered a very professional game of Bingo despite one or two teething problems which were rectified immediately and the Punters all showed their appreciation of the day out by blowing horns and flashing lights to confirm their continued support for the next two games.”
