Old socks cluttering up your drawers? Last year’s footwear looking a little threadbare? If you can tear yourself away from all of the great new bingo sites here at Two Little Fleas, why not get your kids cracking on one of these fabulous sock projects?
1. Sock Monsters
Forget sock puppets(until later!) these weird and wonderful creatures are sock monsters and they’re here to make your afternoon super fun! All you’ll need is your imagination, some old socks, some stuffing and a few different bits and pieces to give your sock monsters some real personality. You’ll find full instructions from Emma Hardy over at Fave Crafts.
2. Sock Snake
I can’t get enough of just how cool this long, pattered sock snake is! He (or she) will take a little more sewing nous to make, but if you have loads of wonky old socks, this is a brilliant way to transform them into something really fun! And, once you’ve done the sewing your kids can get to grips with stuffing and decorating their new pet! Find out how to make a sock snake at Grosgrain.
3. Sock Puppets
The oldies are always the goodies! A sock puppet is an old sock classic, especially when you turn your old footwear into your kids’ favorite book or TV characters! Here’s a “handy” tutorial from Crafty Mama but I’d recommend coming up with your own home made design.
4. Hacky Sack Sock
Easy to make and lots of fun to play with in the garden or park – this hacky sack sock tutorial will help you turn old socks into new favorite toys!
5. Sock-odile
You’ll probably need to do most of this project yourself (unless your young ‘un is particularly keen on sewing) but, if you have a lot of green and red socks lying around, why not transform them into your very own sock-odile!? And why do crocodiles have to be green anyway, we bet you can make some crazy colored crocodiles of your own. Let us know!
6. Hobby Horses
Did you love your hobby horse as a child? To give your youngster the opportunity to gallop around like a knight in shining armor, just use old socks and a pole to create a fabulous hobby horse! Again, not a project kids will manage alone, but lots of fun to help mum or dad with, we’ll betcha! Find full instructions from Rad Megan here.
Do you have a fabulous sock project up your sleeve? Have you created any of the creatures on our list? Share your ideas below or tweet your snaps @TwoLittleFleas.
