Strange But True Gets a Bingo Twist

A 47-year-old woman from Spain has found herself in the global media spotlight this week after her bingo actions led to her being arrested. There she was with her pen poised ready to dab the next number when the police come storming in. Clutching her from her table, she was arrested on the spot for a fake crime and extortion.

Over the years we’ve seen some strange things happen; bingo halls used for growing drugs, a lottery retailer making off with a customer’s €500K instant win and a bumbling thief who mistimed his attempts to make off with slot machine cash, when entering the bingo hall through the roof mid-session, but this latest bingo fiasco tops the lot! Never in a million years did we expect a fake kidnapping to be set up just to for the ‘victim’ to play bingo, but it was!

Here’s What Went Down:

The unnamed woman made a call to her husband, who was in hospital at the time, telling him she had been abducted and that her life was in danger. The frantic man was beside himself but there was nothing he could do from his bedside. Actually, there was one thing he could do – transfer €6K (£5K) ransom money for her release.

After sending the money to her bank (via mobile), the husband telephoned police to tell them about his wife’s predicament. The authorities were quick to react and eventually found the woman. Where was she? In a Barcelona bingo hall playing bingo! The Mossos d’Esquadra police force secured footage of her entering a bingo venue, sanitizing her hands before withdrawing money to play bingo games.

The gobsmacked man later showed the police the messages he had received from his wife, messages that were cleverly designed to make the kidnapping even more authentic. She was later hauled before a judge and jury to answer for her crimes. A Mossos d’Esquadra spokesman confirmed: “Officers have arrested a 47-year-old Spanish woman for pretending to be deprived of her freedom and claiming her captors were demanding €6,000 (£5,077) to release her alive.

We were alerted by the husband of the alleged victim who contacted officers based in Badalona near Barcelona that he had received several mobile phone messages in which his wife told him she had been kidnapped and advised him on how to act.”

Will she go to prison for her actions? We’re not sure, but one thing we do know is that the husband isn’t too happy about the whole thing!
