After scooping a prestigious industry award, the Tombola Bingo team are clearly at the top of their game. The site was launched back in 2005 and has become Britain’s biggest bingo site, attracting many accolades in this time. The latest gong to add to the trophy cabinet is the 2012 eGR Bingo Operator of the Year Award which they were presented with on November 26th, just pipping Meccabingo.com to the post.

This isn’t the first time Tombola has won the top eGR Operator Award for bingo sites, with their previous win coming back in 2010, so after just one year out, they’re back to winning form. In 2011 the prize was handed over to the guys at Jackpotjoy but now it’s back in the hands of the Tombola team.

A Closer Look at the eGR Operator Awards 2012

The eGR Operator Awards pay tribute to the most successful and commendable brands across the online gaming world. In addition to the highly sought after Bingo Operator of the Year award there are many other categories awarded including Social Operator of the Year, Mobile Product of the Year and awards for Innovative and Rising Star companies. In previous years there have been several bingo brands across the different categories but this year bingo-specific companies only won in bingo-specific categories. We’re not sure if this shows a change in trends across the industry. This doesn’t matter if you’re a member of the Tombola team as you’ve scooped the biggest prize of the night for the bingo industry. Let’s take a look at what makes Tombola the site of the year 2012.

Britain’s Biggest Bingo Site

Tombola is one of the most popular sites currently out there. Unlike many other sites Tombola has made a concerted effort to stay unique, standalone and separate from other brands on the market. Playing at Tombola is considerably different to the other brands because it uses its own bespoke software instead of adhering to the industry standards and choosing one of the leading software developers to run their site. Additionally, the site offers a lot more in addition to your standard bingo games which helps it further differentiate itself from others on the market. The range of different bingo games is key to the large customer numbers the site is able to attract and they’re also moving into the mobile market which we’re sure will be a further success.

In terms of advertising and marketing, the brand also has a wide presence across the media. Until earlier this year they had been sponsors of the ITV soap opera Emmerdale since March 2009, giving them a huge amount of daily publicity. What’s more, their most recent adverts feature genuine Tombola players which adds a personal touch to their advertising, which is a clever ploy to further interest potential players.

In terms of accolades the Tombola team has claimed award after award from both players voting for them and from industry experts. Their popularity doesn’t just stop with the critics, it also shows in their fan base and the consistently high numbers of players who stop by their site.

Criticisms of the Brand

Of course like every brand there are little niggles and Tombola’s mainly come in the super busy nature of their site. It means the rooms do get a little overcrowded when the big games play but this doesn’t mean it isn’t fun. Additionally, slots fans may feel a little cheated as the site currently lacks any side game options, to be enjoyed whilst you play your regular bingo game. Members have also commented that the range of games in the chat rooms at the site is also fairly limited. However, Tombola is a site which is determined to buck the trend and stick along its own route to providing fun online bingo gaming and if this means avoiding certain expected features of other sites then that seems to work in their favour.

On the eve of their latest award win the Tombola team must be absolutely ecstatic and we’re looking forward to seeing what they do next to keep themselves at the top of the table. Their unique slant makes playing bingo at their site different to anywhere else and this individuality helps them stand out proudly from the crowd.
