Winning EuroMillions At 17 Ruined Her Life!

Winning a vast sum of money is everyone’s dream, but the reality of such a win can be a nightmare, as it was for the UK’s youngest ever EuroMillions winner, Jane Park. In 2013, Jane was just 17 years old when she scooped £1million in prize money and with her never having seen money of this magnitude before, her life spiralled.

Now ten years on, the Scottish influencer is keen to tell the world just how much of a nightmare her mega lotto win was, appearing on UK TV chat shows as well as those in the US. The happiness she thought the £1m win would bring her didn’t come.

Speaking Out On Age Limits

Jane when appearing on CBS said she ran home from the shop when discovering her win to call Camelot like Charlie and the chocolate factory. With her being so young it was forced on her to go public and she did. When asked how she handled the money at just 17, she said: “I splashed out a bit because I never knew the value of a million pounds, I’d never seen that kind of money. I never knew anyone with that kind of money, so I kind of splashed out on stuff that I’ve always wanted.”

Dr Phil, one of America’s top daytime talk show and TV series hosts, then mentioned the abuse that Jane has received in the past ten years, he said: “You had stalkers, death threats, people hiding in the bushes and commenting on everything you were doing, which when you’re 17 that kind of gets under your skin.”

She replied: “I wish I’d never won it, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone,” after described herself as a “young, naïve 17-year-old.” At such a young age she had procedure after procedure done on her body in a different country and “when I flew back I ended up with sepsis.I literally thought that I was going to die. I don’t know what was wrong with me and they said to me I’d had a reaction to the anaesthetic.”

In the interview the lucky Jane admits to not regretting the money she has spent, her only regret was going public as this attracted negative comments and death threat. She said: “These people seem to think they know more about my life and it’s hard because when I was younger obviously I read the comments and they affected me. These people have never met me, they’ve probably never seen me.”

Her first purchases were a customised Range Rover, a season ticket to her favourite football club and a holiday in Ibiza with friends. Soon after, she returned to her job in a chip shop, stating that she preferred a working routine to a life of leisure.

Since her win, Jane has been raising awareness for the age limit to play the lottery to be raised from 16 to 18 years of age, something that was brought into effect last year.
