This may sound like a joke but we assure you it’s not, the Jackpotjoy team, behind one of the biggest and most successful sites out there, have conducted research into how fun the last few years have been and the findings aren’t great. They’ve been out and about and discovered that the decade that started in 2010 has been voted the least fun decade of the last sixty years. They describe their discovery as a ‘laughter recession’ and to help cheer up the nation they have launched the FUNdation campaign. Heading up the campaign is of course their Queen of Bingo, Barbara Windsor and they’re inviting everybody to get involved and have more fun.
The campaign was launched with the floating of the huge rubber duck floating down the Thames, one of the biggest bingo publicity stunts ever seen. The FUNdation project has a £250,000 bursary put together by Jackpotjoy to help people in the UK enjoy themselves a little more and have a little more fun. They’re hoping Brits will get involved via the FUNdation Facebook App and submit their quirky and fun ideas so they can be created with the help of the team behind the duck stunt. First let’s take a look at the research which led to the project being organised.
UK Happiness Recession
According to the research conducted the average Brit only laughs 7.2 times a day and the recommended daily laughter amount (as confirmed by psychologists) is around 15 times. The research was then broken down on a regional basis and discovered that people in Leeds are the most jovial, with a daily laughter average of 8.7 times a day whilst Norwich based folks are said to only laugh 5.4 times a day, nearly three times less than what’s recommended. Only one Welsh and one Scottish city feature in the top ten findings and this doesn’t bode well for the laughter levels in these countries as a whole!
Jackpotjoy are committed to ‘entertaining the nation’ according to their CEO Michael Saunders so findings such as these obviously make for sad reading at their HQ. It has prompted the team to look more closely at the general happiness across the UK.
Men are more ‘fun’ than Women
Further research carried out at Jackpotjoy has shown that male Brits are having much more fun that their female counterparts. The survey revealed a third of British men actually think they’re more fun than women and this was corroborated when a third of women themselves admitted to believed they were ‘a bit boring’. The women put men being more fun down to them having fewer responsibilities in the home, socializing more and caring less about others’ opinions. This research saw the Bingo Queen issuing a call to arms to all women out there, urging them to enter the FUNdation to show they could be tons of fun with the support of the site team, doing daft tricks and such like to have the UK in stitches.
Celebs get in on the Act
Jackpotjoy isn’t stopping with us regular folk, they’re also challenging celebs to have more fun too! A further survey conducted showed that Madonna, Tom Cruise, Victoria Beckham and Jeremy Clarkson are considered the least fun celebrities out there according to Brits who got involved. Celebrities who topped the fun list unsurprisingly included comedians such as Alan Carr and party animal Rihanna. They also looked at the fun factor in the House of Commons, with Gordon Brown stealing the top spot as the least fun with catastrophic London mayor Boris Johnson topping the fun poll, with his cheesy jokes and bumbling mannerisms.
What’s the point?
All this seems to have little to do with online bingo or bingo at all, but all the research was conducted by Jackpotjoy who clearly consider themselves one of our leading bingo sites but also an entertainments company. Clearly they believe that they can make a difference to the apparent happiness recession and put the smiles back on Brits faces.
We’re looking forward to seeing all the good uses the FUNdation cash is put to and all the silly stunts that are set up in honour of getting Britain smiling again. The decade is still new really so there’s plenty of time to turn it around and make it a fun time to remember.
