Bluebell WoodGala Bingo staff in Sheffield have raised over £1,500 for the Bluebell Wood children’s hospice, which is a great achievement.

To help raise the cash Gala staff run a number of different events at their club including a pyjama bingo night. Sounds like they have all had lots of fun, whilst helping to support a very worthy cause.

Gail Parkin, who is the Fundraiser at Bluebell Wood said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Gala Bingo for all their hard work and the fantastic amount of money they have raised. As we receive no statutory government funding our eight shops around the region rely on donations from the public for their income, and we rely on our shops to help keep Bluebell Wood running so we’re incredibly grateful to Gala Bingo for all their support.”

Bluebell wood Children’s Hospice offers care and support for children and their families who have a shortened life expectancy. They support them both in their own homes and at their Hospice in Sheffield. Their logo (Living with Love & Laughter) is very apt indeed.

Bingo operators have always been synonymous in helping raise money for charities over the years. They have been on all sorts of initiatives from climbing Mount Everest to sky diving out of planes – now that is what you call dedication.

A lot of charities rely solely upon public donations and fundraising campaigns to keep them going now, as they really do need a diversity of funding mechanisms in place. Without companies like Gala Bingo who are very big on charity fundraising, lots of smaller charities would simply not be able to keep afloat.

Along with outside fundraising on their behalf, Bluebell Wood certainly try to make things happen themselves. They have eight charity shops and run a number of different events including their own lottery.

The Bluebell Lottery takes place on a weekly basis and over £1,200 worth of prizes are won each week, plus they have a maximum rollover prize of £5,200. Like the National lottery, tickets cost £1 each to purchase and you can join in online.
