These days, it’s easier than ever to find coupons online, download budgeting apps and have thousands of offers sent directly to your inbox. So often, though, these apps, offers and emails just go straight into the bin when we realise that they don’t actually save us that much. The life of someone on a budget is complicated enough, without having to do test runs of all the money saving apps out there to see which ones are worth the downloading.
That’s why we’ve scoured the internet to find 10 money-saving apps that really will save you money. Read on to find out what they are and how they’ll save you money.

Redlaser
For: iPhone, Android and Windows phones
Redlaser scans the barcode of an item and lets you know if and where you can find it at a lower price. That usually means going to a website, but you may find that paying a couple more pounds is worth it if you need the item now or if shipping is more expensive than the savings.
Viber
For: desktop PCs, Apple products, Android and Windows phones and just about everything else
Viber is an app that lets you call and text other Viber users for free. If you make regular internation calls or if you constantly go over your usage minutes, this app can save you loads – provided your friends and family are also using it.
QuidCo and ClickSnap
For: Apple and Android devices
If you already use QuidCo, you know how to use it – essentially, when you buy products through its service, you get cash back. Its app lets you do basically the same thing, but in real life. You can manage your account, get offers from shops and get money just for checking into certain stores.
With ClickSnap, you can get cashback on your grocery shopping through your QuidCo account. Just take a photo of your shopping reciept and send it in to the company, and they’ll give you cash back.
Kayak
For: Apple devices, Android devices, Windows Mobile 7 and Kindle
Kayak is a travel app that allows you to compare prices on hotels, air fare and car hires from hundreds of comparison sites. You can also book your trip right from the app.
Vouchercloud
For: Apple, Android, Blackberry and Windows phones
Have you ever just wished a voucher fairy would show up and give you vouchers for shops near you? Well, Vouchercloud is kind of like that. It uses GPS information to give you vouchers and offers for shops and restaurants, including Warehouse, Strada and House of Fraser, that are near you.
0870 (iPhone) and SayNoTo0870 (Android)
For: iPhone and Android phones
The iPhone app, 0870, costs 59p, but it will pay for itself after just one use. SayNoTo0870, the Android app, is free, and both apps work in essentially the same way. Most companies use 0870, 0800 or 0845 numbers, and these numbers can cost 35p or more per minute to call from a mobile. This app converts those numbers into 01 and 02 numbers, which come out of your usual allocated minutes.
Rated People
For: iPhone and Android phones
Rated People is a site where people can rate and review the contractors and tradesmen they have worked with, so you can make a more informed choice. This app does basically the same thing, but on your phone, so you can find the right contractor wherever you are. You can see if a contractor provides good value or if you might need to hire someone to correct what they made worse.
Loyalli
For: iPhone and Android
If you have a lot of loyalty cards or if you are simply tired of carrying all those cards around, get this app. Shops will have a QR code, and when you scan it with your phone, the app counts that as a virtural stamp on your virutal loyalty card.
Toshl
For: iPhone, Android, Windows and Symbian phones
Toshl is a budgeting app that makes budgeting simple. Just pop in the money you make, and add in your expenses as you go along. It will then alert you if you are getting too close to overspending, and it will convert your budget into fun graphs that you’ll actually want to look at. You can even set specific budgets to help you save up for a particular item.
Redeemia
For: iPhones
Do you have accounts at discount sites like Groupon, Secret Escapes and Wowcher? This app combines all these offer sites in one handy location, so you can see what everyone is offering with just one click. Best of all, you can customise it so it only shows only the things you are interested that are happening in your area, so you don’t have to dig to find a great deal.
These ten money-saving apps really will save you money, but what else do you do to keep an eye on the pennies?
