The internet is an amazing tool. With it, we have access to the whole of human knowledge. We can keep in touch with friends and family anywhere in the world, almost instantaneously. We can celebrate the victories and mourn the disasters that people on the other side of the planet experience. We can see the marvels of the universe in high-definition photos. We can read poetry, novels, news and personal accounts. We can create and upload our own content, for all the world to see and interact with.
We can do all of this with the internet, and what do we typically do with it? We waste time.
In our tribute to the way we really use the internet, we have pulled together 10 websites you’ll love to waste time on.
Where Cool Things Happen
Where Cool Things Happen is a stunning photo blog. Sure, it includes reports of cool tech and cars, and categories include art, food, architecture and even awesome ads, but the appeal of the site is all in the amazing photographs.

I Waste So Much Time
I Waste So Much Time is an internet aggregator, essentially. The authors trawl the web, looking for funny and interesting things, which they reblog. Learn how to have a lucid dream, then scroll down and see an amazing photo. If you join the site, you can submit posts and vote on whether you like the content, sending the great stuff to the top of the site and the rubbish stuff to the bottom.

Pop Salad
Do you know someone who is obsessed with their fantasy football team? Pop Salad is like that, but for celebrity watchers. You have to sign in to play, but once you have, you invest in celebrities’ stocks. Then, when they make the news, their stock rises, and if they’ve stayed out of the limelight, their stock falls. Buy and sell to make it onto the leader board, or challenge your friends to see who can do the best.

Attack of the Cute
Attack of the Cute is a simple site with a simple premise. Browse cute animal photos until you can’t take the cuteness anymore. You’ll be surprised how long you can spend on the site.

Lunchtimers
If you ever played with magnetic letters, you will love Lunchtimers. Go into a room and play with virtual magnetic letters with other players from around the world. You can spell out messages, or create pictures with the letters. Whatever you do, you will enjoy the spontaneous and childlike nature of the game.

Monoface
Monoface is like grown-up Mr Potato Head, but sillier. An ad agency took silly pictures of the people who work there, and they broke the faces into head and shoulders, right eye, left eye, nose and mouth. Click each element to create a funny face, then share it if you like. Or click ‘shuffle’ and giggle.

The Wiki Game
The Wiki Game is an action-packed race against other players, based on Wikipedia. Sounds like it can’t be fun, right? But it really is. You start on one page and, by clicking through the links on the page, you try to reach the other page the game has given you. Try to get from the start to the end page in as few clicks as possible, and compare your results with other players’.

Free Rice
With Free Rice, you can play a game, learn new words and earn food for hungry people around the world. Run by the United Nations World Food Programme, Free Rice is a word game. Simply click the definition of the word, and for every right answer, you earn 10 grains of rice. The first levels are quite easy, so you stick with it to see how much you can earn. Soon, however, the words become harder, more complex or more obscure, so you start learning new words as you earn rice.

Pointless Sites
Pointless Sites does what it says on the tin: it is a collection of pointless sites. But with most things on the internet, pointless doesn’t exactly mean it won’t suck up hours of your time. Choose from categories including Animations, Odd, Slightly Interesting and Hypnotic, or click Random. You’ll soon find something to waste some time on.

Food Gawker
Food Gawker is like Pinterest, but exclusively for foodies. Browse the gorgeous images, or search recipes through the categories. If you love discovering new recipes, planning dinner party menus or just looking at lovely images of food, you will spend loads of time on this site.

These 10 sites are great places to waste time, but where do you go to waste time on the internet? Let us know in the comments.
