Two friends shared a £50,000 jackpot at Halifax Mecca Bingo Hall

Two friends have shared a £50,000 jackpot prize after winning at a bingo hall, reports the Halifax Courier.

Beverley Tinkler, 60, and Debora Sturnam, 50, both received £25,000 at the Halifax Mecca Bingo Hall, after Beverley won £50,00 on a game of bingo and decided to share her winnings with her best friend.

When the two arrived at the bingo hall, neither had any idea that their night would unfold as it did.

The two women, who have been best friends for 35 years, received free tickets for the new ‘Firecracker’ showcase event.

They both became aware that Beverley had a full house when she marked the number 70 and bellowed “bingo”. However, both women were unaware just how large the prize was.

Retired mum-of-two Beverley, of Siddal, said: “We both screamed and Deborah was getting really excited.

“The atmosphere was brilliant, people came to say congratulations and everyone was clapping and cheering.

“Saturday isn’t usually a big night for money, it seemed like a fluke and my family didn’t believe me when I told them.”

The two women said that they always share their winnings, and this huge money was no exception.

The pair normally enjoy a night at the bingo with a group of friends once a week.

Debora, a financial support worker from Liversedge, said: “I was shaking for about 20 minutes afterwards, I was so excited.

“I plan to go on holiday, get a new phone and treat my nephews, but the money will also allow me to work part-time and complete my college course in Employment Law.”
