With more and more people signing up to the wonderful world of online bingo, there are plenty of operators that are getting creative in keeping us fans coming back for more. From live bingo presenters to community-based competitions, playing at an online bingo site is not always a case of playing simple online bingo. But what about Bingo radio?? Does the idea make bingo fans really want to tune in – or just change the dial?
Well, that depends on who’s broadcasting we reckon. There are a couple of bingo radio gems out there that are well worth tuning into. The daddy of the bingo radio is the aptly titled “Bingo Radio”, which is run through the guys at Game Village Bingo. A standalone 24-hour online station, the guys play a huge mix of music throughout the day, allowing fans to tune in and listen like any other radio. And they aren’t short of experience – the site was launched all the way back in 2008, and is still going strong three years later.
It’s not too hard to find reasons why. Alongside the music, the team at Bingo Radio also run special promotions, linked to Game Village Bingo that can give fans the chance to win extra prizes, bonus points and send in their requests to the live presenters every night from 7pm. With most prizes being cash, and directly credited to the listeners Game Village account, it’s a great way for fans to get something extra by trying something different!
Another online bingo site that has turned its hand to broadcasting is Foxy Bingo. Which in a way shouldn’t surprise most bingo fans, as the guys have always had a bit of a penchant for touting Foxy Bingo as a way of life, rather than just a bingo site. From online shopping to the recent launch of Foxy Bingo perfume, the Foxy Bingo radio station is another way the site connects with us roomies beyond bingo.
Like most things Foxy, its kind of gimmicky, but like most things Foxy, it always works. Rather than have a 24 hour station, the guys broadcast at set times during the week – namely Tuesday and Thursday evenings. It’s not just entertainment on offer either, with competitions, quizzes and draws giving players the chance to win big cash prizes, without paying for anything. A great example is their Cash Call promotion. Between 8pm and 9pm, the team give away £100 every 10 minutes, picking 5 random listeners and giving them the chance to call in and claim their cash. Other promotions such as the lie detector quiz also give away bingo points, equating to free bingo cash to use on the Foxy Bingo website.
And yet, online bingo fans seem to be split down the middle about the point of bingo radio. Take for example Bingo Radio. When it was launched, there was much fanfare surrounding the sponsorship of the station, with other sites like Virgin Bingo stumping up the cash to fund the operation and many suggesting that more sites would clamber to do the same. Something that definitely hasn’t materialised as Game Village Bingo now exclusively own the site. Part of the problem is that although these stations have their own (established) shows, many online bingo fans are just looking for bingo. Multitasking with radio may just be a step too far, with too much going on that you almost forget about the bingo!
But then again, the fact the extra competitions and promos on bingo radio shows can often be more than a match for standard online bingo games. Different horses for courses perhaps – but the fact that both Foxy Bingo and Game Village Bingo have managed to maintain their radios for so long suggests that they must be doing something right.
What do you think? Worth tuning into or you won’t be touching that dial full stop? Let us know your thoughts!
