Popular Holiday Park Won’t Make that Mistake Again!

Doniford Bay is a tranquil caravan park in an idyllic location on the coast of Somerset. Famed for their entertainment and bingo, the venue came under fire recently when the owners decided to knock bingo on the head in favour of Euro2020. Many holidaymakers decided to have dinner before going back to their caravan to get ready for an evening of bingo, but upon arrival to the entertainment room, they discovered bingo had been postponed without prior warning.

Several guests took to voicing their disappointment to the entertainment team, but according to one disgruntled guest, the entertainment manager was “a bit rude not very approachable and not very professional looking.” Getting nowhere with the staff, those wanting to play bingo decided the only way to get a response was to plaster social media with what had happened.

Like it or Lump It:

Instead of bingo games with cash and prizes, they were being offered a big screen to watch England vs Croatia! Guests couldn’t believe it. Nor could I to be honest. The lads beat Croatia 1-0! That was payback for knocking us out of the World Cup in 2018! Holidaymakers were having difficulty getting the holiday camp to listen…if they had wanted to watch the game, they would’ve stayed in their caravan or put it on their mobile or tablet while playing bingo.

The incident prompted many to post angry reviews about the holiday park on the internet, and it even resulted in a handful of guests leaving earlier than they should! Since the backlash, Haven bosses have said they won’t make the same mistake again and will stick to their usual schedule – bingo. In a statement, a Haven representative said: “With regards to the entertainment, I apologise that activities were cancelled due to the football. We are now not showing any of the football, so it does not interfere with our scheduled activities.”

They should count themselves lucky! The public houses here in Wales have turned their television sets off completely! Publicans fear customers will occupy tables for more than just ‘eating time’ if the Euros are being shown, so took the decision to allocate just 2-hours per table with no sports on whatsoever!

Many have asked why the entertainment manager didn’t allocate the football to a different venue, that way they could satisfy both the types of customers – those who like to play bingo and the football fan. The good news is if you have a holiday coming up with Haven, whether that be in Scotland or England, bingo will continue as normal. If you want to watch the Euro’s, take your mobile but make sure it’s on silent!
