6 Million Baht Win Results in Heartbreak
Winning the lottery for many of us is a dream – having so much cash to go from rags to riches in a blink of an eye is what everyone wants, but in reality, such large sums of money can cause huge problems, as one man recently found out.
Over the years lottery winners have hit the headlines and not always for the right reasons. We’ve had teenage lottery winners here in the UK who openly state the win ruined their life, one man blew his millions on drug and alcohol in just a few years and one happily married couple ended up splitting after an affair was uncovered.
Love Really Is Blind
One very unfortunate man from Taiwan is now on that list of unlucky jackpot winners after scooping a life-changing win and losing his wife at the same time! Oh, and his money! Manit, who has been married for 26 years, recently won 6 million Baht, around £140,856, and did what any loyal husband would do – he deposited the massive win into his wife’s account.
He had plans to donate part of his win to a temple before holding a ceremony and sharing the fortune with his family. Only his wife had other ideas. The ceremony went without a hitch until Manit spotted someone in the crowd who shouldn’t have been there. Approaching his wife Angkanarat, he asked why the man was in attendance, she lied stating he was a member of her family.
Angkanarat’s “family member” was in fact her lover and after the ceremony, the pair took off with all of the winnings, leaving her husband shocked and penniless! Unfortunately, the police cannot assist in reclaiming his win as he never signed an official wedding certificate together, despite having three children and being “married” for 26 years.
An absolutely dumbfounded Manit spoke to local press expressing his disbelief at what has happened, claiming his marriage was a happy one with no problems. Blinded by love obviously as his son told authorities that he was aware of his mothers affair and that he had contacted his mother, revealing she had moved around a four-hour drive away.
In the eyes of the law, Manit gifted the cash to his wife by placing it into her bank account. His only option is to try and persuade his wife to return to him or just return the money. There can be no legal claim over the money whatsoever. Failing to reach out to his estranged wife, Manit wavered his right to anonymity by approaching local Thai media to get her to bring the money home. All of his pleas are falling on deaf ears.
