drunk-manA man who fell asleep drunk in a bingo club and found himself locked in overnight is to be imprisoned for three months.

Nathan Westmoreland fell asleep in the bingo club in Shotton.

The following morning, the hall’s cleaners let him out when they turned up for work.

However, they discovered that Mr Westmoreland had eaten food and damaged a sweet dispenser trying to get into it, during his overnight stay at the hall.

A burglary charge was dropped at Mold Crown Court after Mr Westmoreland admitted stealing the food and damaging the sweet dispenser.

It was accepted he went in for a lawful purpose, but that he then remained there and stole alcohol from the fridge. He also ate some tomatoes and cucumbers.

Judge Nicolas Parry jailed Mr Westmoreland for three months. His previous convictions were the main aggravating feature behind the Judge’s decision.

Prosecutor, Richard Edwards, told the court how Mr Westmoreland, 35, formerly of Chester Road East in Shotton, was found inside The Apollo Bingo Club in Rhyl.

Simon Rogers, defending Mr Westmoreland, said: “He was drunk.

“He went in lawfully, fell asleep and then took advantage of the opportunity.”

Mr Westmoreland appeared at court via a live television link from Altcourse Prison in Liverpool.
