Mecca Bingo has released details of their intention to open their first ever electronic only bingo club.
No more will Mecca Bingo patrons in Reading, London, need to get dabbers at the ready as the touch screen revolution has just landed at a bingo club near them.
By launching their first electronic only bingo club, the Rank Group are looking to attract a new generation of players and this is said to include men in their 20’s.
Times have certainly changed in the gender department when it comes to playing bingo and it could be said that online bingo has had a helping hand in this. No matter whether you are male or female, when you play online you are somewhat incognito and lots of men seem to have discovered they like playing bingo.
Stereo typically – it was thought, men were more into casino / sports book and women into bingo, but times have certainly changed.
This could be down to the fact that many online casino sites, like Bet365 for instance have launched their own bingo products and most online bingo sites now run casino style games – so both products pretty much go hand in hand with one another.

The Rank Groups Chief Executive Ian Burke, said, “The electronic gaming has definitely got an appeal to the under-35s,” said Mr Burke, adding that even men in their mid-20s have been attracted to bingo on portable tablets. Electronic gaming offers all sorts of additional benefits to players. I wouldn’t describe our handheld devices as an iPad, but it’s the same principle. Like many people, three years ago I would never have imagined iPads being as popular or as successful as they are. “
He also went on to say, “A lot of people love the tactile aspect of playing bingo with paper and pen and I imagine that will be around for a long, long time to come. But playing bingo electronically is much more akin to playing it on the internet except it’s done in a social and community setting.”
During the first half of Rank’s financial year revenues from their Mecca Bingo Clubs have dipped, but revenues from their online bingo site have continued to grow. Bingo clubs, like all businesses have to move with the times, but I do feel somewhat saddened by the thought of the paper and pen way of playing bingo may one day be no more.
