I’m facing a bit of a dilemma this week when it comes to selecting my online bingo games to play. See, usually I’m an advocate for the ”˜small is beautiful’ philosophy, looking for the sites with the smallest prices (in other words, free bingo cards) and the smallest number of players. In my eyes, the less people I have to play against and the less money I have to part with, the more likely I’ll win, and the lower my chances of losing are. But it seems of late, I’m finding a bit of a change of heart…It all started when I ratcheted up a little free bingo win not so long ago, and realised all my recent time spent in front of my computer amounted to er… £2 in winnings. To me, it seemed almost like it wasn’t worth my while. Maybe I was a little fatigued from free bingo, so I tried my hand at a pay to play game (all this free bingo playing has helped me to save a few pennies to splash out). It wasn’t a guaranteed jackpot game or anything – just a bog standard bingo game with, as I usually look for, a reasonably empty room. And then it dawned on me the eternal numbers problem with online bingo.

See, more players means lower odds of winning obviously. But more players also means more money to win. It’s the reason that sites like Foxy Bingo or JackpotJoy Bingo are able to offer such massive prizes – because there are so many roomies who love the excitement of playing.

But take away the money and unless you take away the ticket price, it’s highly unlikely many roomies are gonna want to play the game, mainly cos as players, our expectations have perhaps been a little warped by all this free no deposit malarkey (well, mine definitely have). And so lies the problem. See, in your usual bingo games, the prize pot is determined by the number of players, and no players = no prizes to be won. And so it goes around in an endless cycle!

So my new rule? Moderation is key! I’m gonna start mixing things up a little, playing some of the larger rooms with bigger prize pots for a bit of a big money thrill alongside my usual free bingo games. That way, I know I’m contributing a little more to my bingo site. And keeping it middle ground also means a better chat room, with a lively but not too busy atmosphere that I can keep on top of. That’s not to say I’m gonna suddenly ditch my freebie bingo games or anything – more that I figure sometimes, you gotta pay to play.
