Late For Bingo Meant Push-Ups as Punishment
Kevin Stewart of the Scottish National Party (SNP) is the focus of media attention this week after a bingo booze-up bust with a fellow SNP member. The mental wellbeing Minister was seen throwing a tirade of abuse and finger wags at the MSP for Aberdeen Central before being escorted off the premises by a bouncer.
Aberdeen has long been plugged into the LGBT+ scene with theme nights up hosted up and down the city. From rock and roll bingo to bobbie dazzler bingo dance events, the entertainment is unique, there are prizes to be won and they really are attended by all.
Dabbers Down and Fists Up!
Kevin Stewart, 54, was on the dancefloor at a party in Cheerz nightclub organised by the SNP’s LGBTQ+ wing Out for Independence when all hell broke loose. The drag bingo event went without a hitch until 1am when The MSP for Aberdeen Central was seen gesturing towards the SNP member. A third man was caught up in the clash, he remained at the bar an hour after Mr Stewart left.
A night of bingo playing, dance-off’s, immersive action and general craziness resulted in a sell-out event and one of many witnesses to the boisterous argument said that there had been “a lot of finger wagging” and “yelling”, with the man involved heard shouting towards the Nationalist politician: “Are we in Birmingham? Are we Tories now?”.
Just last week the Conservative party held its annual conference in Birmingham and the chairman of the young Conservative group faced backlash after tweeting disdain for the city. Daniel Grainger, who was in Birmingham for the party’s annual conference, later apologised after an onslaught of criticism flooded in from all angles of social media. One can only assume the clash between SNP members was in relation to the earlier comments voiced by Grainger.
When confronted on his actions, Stewart denied he was involved in a screaming match and insisted he got into a little argument because of the “behaviour” some of the bingo players were displaying. “There wasn’t a fight, there was an argument – I wasn’t happy with some of the behaviours on display,” he said.
Rumours are circulating that Stewart arrived late to the event and as a result, he was forced to do press-ups. This type of activity is not uncommon in live events – just like being heckled by comedians for walking in and out during the show. However, another member of the SNP who attended the event said Stewarts conduct was “unacceptable”.
A senior Government official has said to date there have not been any complaints made against Stewart, but the SNP will either confirm nor deny an incident took place, nor will they reveal whether a complaint has been made to them directly.
