The numbers 07, 10, 15, 44, 49 and 03 and 12 may not be significant to many people, but for one lucky Brit, those numbers were the winning numbers for the mega, record-breaking £170 million EuroMillions draw. The news on such a mega win circulated the media and everyone was waiting to see who won and whether or not they’d go public…
…and the good news is the winner has come forward, but for now at least, they’ve chosen to stay out of the public eye.
The lucky Brit matched all five main numbers as well as the two lucky stars in Tuesday night’s draw to become wealthier than their wildest dreams – and that sum them richer than pop sensations Ed Sheeran who is reportedly worth £160, and Adele who is worth £150m and the win has even made them wealthier than royalty – the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Camelot refused to comment on whether the winner was an individual or part of a syndicate, but if the winner is an individual, they would find themselves on the Sunday Time’s Rich List – how nice!
Andy Carter, senior winners’ adviser at the National Lottery, said: “This is the biggest win ever on The National Lottery and we look forward to helping the ticket-holder start to enjoy their new-found wealth.”
He continued: “One incredibly lucky ticket-holder has scooped the enormous £170million EuroMillions jackpot. They are now the UK’s biggest ever winner. It’s been a fantastic year for UK EuroMillions players, with an amazingfive jackpot wins. In June, one lucky ticketholder, who chose to remain anonymous, became one of the UK’s biggest ever winners after scooping a £123 million jackpot. As always, the team are on hand to support and help guide the new winner as they start their adventure with their life-changing win.”
Previous UK Lottery Winners:
There have been five UK jackpot winners (so far) this year including the most recent one of £170 million, and the previous four winners have a combined wealth of £350 million! An anonymous winner in June became the UK’s third biggest ever winner after becoming the sole winner of £123 million but that 3rd position now sees them sliding into fourth.
Patrick and Frances Connolly from Northern Ireland won £114.9 million on New Year’s Day when they went public with the news of their win – what a way to celebrate the new year! Ade Goodchild won £71 million in March and a month later in April, another anonymous winner took away a £38 million lottery win.
The UK’s former biggest lottery win title holders were Colin and Chris Weir from Largs who won £161 million on the EuroMillions back in 2011.
What Happens When You Win?
Andy Carter who has been in the position of advising big lottery winners for 13-years, explains what happens when you win the lottery.“If you were to win the EuroMillions tomorrow night, you would check the ticket, ring the number on the back of the ticket and that would put you through to a lottery line and they would then get a member of my team to call you back.”
Once the telephone calls have taken place, there’s a home visit scheduled. After a few checks, the Winners Advisory team would determine whether the winner was genuine or not but it may not be as straight-forward as you think: “Sometimes we get to people’s houses and we don’t even open the computer for an hour because we just sit there and answer people’s questions. This could sometimes last all day.”
Once winners have been verified, the real cash prize is popped into the winner’s bank in a single sum!
