We have seen many online bingo sites come and go over the years, but what would make an operator change their software provider?
The virtual world of online bingo is a very competitive marketplace and some operators just cannot compete with the big boys, so it is inevitable really that some will close their virtual doors forever – which is understandable. But again we are back to the question, why change?
Pink Ribbon Bingo changed from Virtue Fusion to Dragonfish and Big Heart Bingo changed from Parlay to Cozy Games. One of the most inflammable moves ever, was back in August 2008, when Sun Bingo went from running on Tombola software to a bespoke product designed for them by Gamesys, the people behind the one and only Jackpotjoy.
Gala Bingo also changed from using their own software product and moved over to Virtue Fusion – but the question remains, why?
In the case of Sun Bingo the ethos at the time was – it was their choice to move software providers and they went to Gamesys to build them a bespoke product. The software they had built exclusively for them was quite similar in many ways to Tombola and they even kept their room name line up the same, keeping with the terms bingo90, bingo80 and bingo75 – which you will still find at both sites today.
However there was one major difference, slot games could now come into the frame for Sun Bingo in a big way. Previously when running on Tombola software slot style games where nowhere in the picture and Tombola remains this way today. They are basically still the only online bingo site on the net where ‘bingo’ actually takes precedence to slots!
This must have been a big decision for Sun Bingo at the time, as it is a massive gamble to change software. When changing who provides your gaming product you are unable to take your existing player base with you, which means all your members would need to re-register with you to play at your new site.
So you run a huge risk of losing hundreds if not thousands of players from your database. Sun Bingo did come up with a plan to get all existing members over to their new site by running some competitions. One of the most memorable promo they have run during the past few years was when they giveaway 100 brand new cars in 100 days – that’s a car a day. Crazy really when you think about it.
The Sun also had the back up of being able to advertise their bingo product to millions of people every day of the week. They are often seen in their newspaper to advertise their wares and publicise their next big promo to pull players in.
Slot / instant games pull in huge revenues for online gaming operators, which could have been one of the top factor as to why Sun Bingo choose to switch from Tombola over to Gamesys – although, we of course are only surmising.
