Winning any sum before Christmas would be a dream come true – I’m still holding out for a decent bingo win after going ages without anything, but that’s luck for you! And talking of luck, one grandmother from Wales couldn’t believe hers when she realised she’d won a jaw-dropping £3.8million on the National Lottery! Diane Bate from Rhyl was in total disbelief after winning a life-changing sum that she threw-up instantly!
They say seeing is believing but she was that shocked, her husband and granddaughter had to check, check and check again! Diane said: “I checked my ticket early on Sunday morning using the National Lottery app when it made a funny sound. I looked at the amount and couldn’t quite believe my eyes, I thought, ‘surely that can’t be right?!’ The most I have ever won before is £100.”
Using the mobile to play the lottery is surging in popularity as there’s no chance of losing your ticket or being misled at the checkout. You simply scan your ticket’s QR code with the camera on your device and it will display your numbers and your results instantly along with any free play you may have won! Diane continued: “I was in total disbelief, so I woke Michael up to check the ticket – he wasn’t happy but we’ve been married 52 years so he soon got over it! I still didn’t believe it, so I also checked it with my granddaughter too. I must have checked it about six times in total before I started to believe it was real, and at that point, I was physically sick!”
A Long Daze:
To take her mind off the prize, the lucky lottery winner spent the day in a daze. Not one to dwell or overthink, Diane spent hours in the kitchen cooking a family feast. The retired social services worker has already drawn up plans to buy a bigger home in her locality, revealing: “we want to buy a bigger house locally as we love the area but, we don’t want a mansion or anything flashy”. She also has plans to revisit the US – somewhere she’s been at least 15 time before! Blimey! I went the once to New York and would love to go back – can’t imagine being able to afford 15 trips, and that was before she won the lottery!
Naturally, the loving gran is going to do what most of us would in her situation – help out her family. She added: “Being able to help out our family brings us so much happiness – it isn’t just a win for me, it’s a win for them too. Michael, who retired as a HGV driver some 15 years ago, has suffered from ill health recently so this win is a real pick-me-up for the both of us.”
Diane purchased her ticket at ASDA in St Asaph Avenue, Flintshire and matched all six balls drawn on Saturday December 12th. The winning numbers were 13, 38, 39, 49, 53, 56 and the bonus ball as 59.
