Sometimes we get tired of the stereotype of the spoiled little rich celebrities. Throwing eggs at neighbours houses is just boring after a while, isn’t it?
So we decided to look at the celebrities out there who are using their powers for good. These celebrities, from models to athletes to actors and musicians, are bringing their star power to some very good causes.
And it turns out they bring more than just glitz and glamour to charities: a study conducted by researchers at Rutgers School of Business found that donors gave 1.4% more to charities that had high-profile celebrity backers.
Let’s take a look at just a few of these amazing celebrities’ charities.
Rupert Grint is an ambassador for Starlight Children’s Foundation

The Harry Potter star has been putting his talent – and his celebrity – to good use. He’s starred in films and music videos (who can forget his creepy presence Ed Sheeran’s ‘Lego House’ video), and now he’s signed on to be an ambassador for Starlight Children’s Foundation.
The charity grants wishes to terminally ill or very seriously ill children, and Rupert signed up to work with the organisation after seeing first-hand the work they’ve done with 9-year-old Calum Wilson (pictured) at the charity’s annual Christmas party at 11 Downing Street. In fact, he’s joining loads of celebs and dignitaries who support Starlight, including Stephen Fry and his Harry Potter co-star, Bill Nighy.
Lily Allen, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Brian May put on a show for Coram

Coram organised a charity gig at the Royal Albert Hall on 1st April this year, and musicians including Maverick Sabre, The Feeling and Kerry Ellis also turned out to support the charity. Coram is celebrating its 275th birthday this year, and this concert was part of 275 celebrations they are putting on to highlight all the work they have done for nearly three centuries.
The concert raised over £200,000 to help the charity continue its work for vulnerable children.
Giselle and Don Cheadle are active United Nations Environment Programme ambassadors
Giselle and Don are not the only ones, either. They are joined in this video by Man City’s Yaya Toure and Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder to highlight the UNEP’s World Environment Day on 5th June.
They all agreed to be filmed during their down time, showing us how they get in the zone to do what they do. Giselle practices kung fu, while Don prepares for his directorial debut by learning to play the trumpet (he’s directing and starring in a Miles Davis biopic).
Halle Berry isn’t just a spokeswoman for Revlon

She also supports the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women. This year, she’s even hosting it, bringing in Hollywood heavyweights Bruce Willis and Christina Applegate as special guests. The run/walk is expected to bring more than 25,000 participants to LA with the aim of raising crucial funds to support women’s cancers charities. The money will help those charities that research treatments, provide counselling and support and reach out to communities to raise awareness.
In its 21 years, the run/walk has helped raise over $70 million (nearly £41.5 million) for cancer charities, and its fundraising even helped researchers develop Herceptin, a non-toxic breast cancer treatment.
These celebrities are just a handful of the many charitable notables out there. We didn’t even mention Sir Elton, who officially supports nearly 50 charities!
