Footballer Luis Suárez has been dropped by 888poker following his bite.

Liverpool striker Luis Suárez has been dropped by 888poker, following his infamous bite of an Italian defender.

The poker company announced they were severing ties with the Uruguayan on Friday after he was banned from all football-related activity for four months, following his bite of Giorgio Chiellini during a world cup match between Uruguay and Italy.

Suárez, 27, joined the online gambling company as a brand ambassador only last month.

The company said:

“888poker signed Luis Suárez following a fantastic season for which his achievements were widely recognised.

“Regrettably, following his actions during Uruguay’s World Cup match against Italy on Tuesday, 888poker has decided to terminate its relationship with Luis Suárez with immediate effect.”

The Liverpool striker was hit with the longest ban ever imposed at a World Cup on Thursday by soccer’s governing body Fifa.

He clashed with Chiellini during the final minutes of Uruguay’s last Group D match against Italy, shortly before the South American champions knocked Italy out of the tournament.

The Italian defender pulled down his collar to show the mark on his shoulder to the referee, who took no action.

888poker made $53.2m (£31m) in pre-tax profits in 2013.
