Workers at a bookmaker in Burnley were threatened by a man wielding a sword during a robbery, which has been described as “violent and aggressive”.
The man, wearing a balaclava, was carrying a sword that was approximately 2 foot long.
He entered the Coral Betting Shop in Harry Potts Way, Burnley, at 8.45pm.
After approaching the counter, he demanded money from staff. It is reported that he then struck the computer screen which operates the till with the sword, which knocked over displays in the shop.
It is believed the man then leaped over the counter while continuing to demand money as he threatened staff with the sword.
He then made off with approximately £150 to £200 from the till.
Det. Insp. Nicola Bithell from East CID said: “This was a violent and aggressive attack which left the two members of staff terrified and fearful for their own safety. I would appeal to anyone who has any information that may assist us in identifying this dangerous individual to come forward.”
The man is white; approximately 5ft. 10in. tall, has a slim build and reportedly spoke with a local Burnley accent. He was wearing a grey tracksuit top with a logo on the top of the hood and dark tracksuit bottoms.
