Scott A. Carmitchel, who has been arrested on suspicion of stealing $43,500 from the Bellagio casino, refused to co-operate with police who had to hold his head in position for his mug shot.
A man arrested in connection with an armed robbery at an American casino is alleged to have celebrated by spending money on prostitutes on the Las Vegas Strip.
Scott A. Carmitchel is accused of stealing $43,500 at gunpoint from the Bellagio Casino.
Detectives say the 34 year-old from Kansas robbed a casino cashier of $43,500 at gunpoint on Friday night.
They claim that Mr Carmitchel later paid prostitutes at another hotel with the money still bound in Bellagio wrappers.
He was arrested the following night on Saturday, and has been held on $84,000 bail and is due to appear in court on Wednesday. He will be facing charges of battery, grand larceny, burglary and robbery with a deadly weapon.
It is reported that the robbery took place at 8.30pm on Friday when a man walked up to a Bellagio cashier’s cage, pulled a gun from his backpack and demanded money from a female clerk.
She later told police that she feared that she would die if she did not co-operate.
Mr Carmitchel’s arrest happened after police were tipped off by a tourist from Texas who said he became suspicious after a man paid him $300 for him to rent Mr Carmitchel a $405 room at the Hard Rock Hotel.
Later police detained four prostitutes who left the room. They were all carrying wads of cash that had the Bellagio Casino labels.
They said that the man has been acting erratic, paranoid and delusional, according to a police report.
According to an arrest report, the Mr Carmitchel acknowledged that his picture was on Bellagio surveillance tape. However, he denied committing the armed robbery. He said that he went to the casino but did not remember what happened.
When police searched his hotel room they discovered $10,000 in cash along with a BB gun that matched the description of the weapon used during the robbery. They also discovered expensive clothes that had been recently purchased, including several Louis Vuitton items.
Approximately half the amount of money stolen remains unaccounted for, the police report says.
Mr Carmitchel refused to cooperate with police, and police had to forcibly hold his head in position when he had his mug shot taken.
According to records from Kansas Department of Corrections, Mr Carmitchel has previously served time in jail for battery against a law officer as well as for a robbery in 1998. He was sent to prison most recently a year ago for making a criminal threat.
