

The lottery fund are donating £966,177 to the Kinship Care Support Services in East Lothian, Ayrshire and Moray.
The Big Lottery Fund has awarded a grant of nearly £1 million to the charity, Children 1st, which will benefit families in East Lothian, reports the East Lothian News.
The funding from the Lottery Fund amounts to £966,177, and will be used to run Kinship Care Support Services in East Lothian, Ayrshire and Moray.
It will also be used provide additional national telephone helpline support.
The funding which was announced last week is part of a £7.4m hand-out to thirteen groups under the Big Lottery Scotland’s Investing in Communities programme.
The Director of Children and Family Services at Children 1st, Mary Glasgow, said: “We are delighted to be awarded this substantial grant by Big Lottery Fund Scotland to allow us to improve hundreds of children’s lives by supporting their kinship carers.
“We will use this funding to set up hubs in Moray, East Lothian and Ayrshire and to ensure kinship carers have access to the wide range of support they need and want to help the children in their care thrive.
“Our services will include advocacy, mediation, and group work, support to help them feel more confident in their parenting, family group conferencing and, where it is needed, intensive therapeutic support.”
Maureen McGinn, Big Lottery Fund chairman for Scotland, said the Investing in Communities programme aimed to support people and communities in greatest need.
“Five of these groups focus on giving support to children and families facing challenging times or who are at a turning point in their lives,” she added.
