Love her or loathe her, Carole Baskin has become a global sensation since appearing in the Netflix Tiger King documentary. Her fierce temperament and constant battles with Joe Exotic took captivated audiences, but what was the reason behind the long-standing feud? In 2009, Carole from Big Cat Rescue, a non-profit animal rescue in Florida, called on shopping malls to stop hosting Exotic’s travelling cub-petting shows and when many of them did so, the feud spiraled.
Being so dedicated to saving big cats and protecting them from people who want to use the endangered species in pay to play schemes, her rivals have repeatedly threatened her life, which brings us back to that feud! Joe Exotic is currently serving a 22-year jail sentence for being convicted of two counts of murder to hire when ordering the “hit” on Carole Baskin! His sentence also includes 17 wildlife trafficking violations.
Controversy still surrounds the Big Cat Rescue owner with questions still being asked over the disappearance of her husband Don Lewis. In 2020 a will owned by the missing man was scrutinized and it was revealed the signature on that document, the document leaving his entire estate to Baskin, was forged!
