skyIt is being speculated that SkyBet may enter the Italian and German betting markets, following BskyB’s acquisition of Sky Italia and Sky Deutschland broadcast services.

SkyBet is a subsidiary sports betting and igaming brand of BskyB.

The deal to incorporate the German and Italian broadcasters into BskyB from 21st Century Fox, is estimated to be valued at £5 billion (€6.31 / $8.5 billion).

If it is permitted by Italian and German broadcasting authorities, then it will allow BskyB to gain 20 million paying television customers.

At the beginning of 2014, BskyB Chief Executive, Jeremey Darroch, commented that BskyB had been studying the possibility of potential acquisition in the European media and broadcast sectors.

British Broadcast analysts have said that the acquisition of a European multinational pay-to-view television business would be the likely outcome, as BskyB faced tougher competition in the UK from BTSports and Virgin Media, as well as digital content providers such as Netflix, Google and Apple TV.

The acquisition of Sky Italia and Sky Deutschland means that it is likely BskyB will offer additional customer services and products.

On Monday, the industry news source EGR Magazine highlighted that senior management of BskyB would look to add igaming and sports betting services in the regions.

Today, Italy offers igaming licenses to foreign based operators who are targeting the market, while Germany is in the final processes of centralising its igaming regulation.
