The international slot provider Microgaming has produced yet another exciting slot game, the unusual EmotiCoins! This game is special because it was pitched by their own members of staff, success to be proud of, for those with the big ideas.
EmotiCoins is, as you may have guessed, based on Emoticons, the cultural and technological phenomenon. The symbols on the reels are all inspired by the smiley faces, winking faces and other symbols we now use regularly in text messages and on social media.
The idea for the game was pitched by Microgaming employees Anna McChesney and Rob Mercer, at the Microgaming Idea Factory, a staff-powered innovation initiative which won The Spark Award 2017.
Anna McChesney, PR Manager for Microgaming, said: “As a marketer, to me the use of emoticons in social media and communication is fascinating; they have essentially become a universal language! 92% of the world’s online population use emoticons, so developing a themed game would automatically target the demographic of our operators’ players.”
Rob Mercer, Enterprise Solutions Team, said: “It was amazing to see what they did with the research and background we developed. We really love the completed game!”
The pair highlighted the use of emoticons in today’s world at the contest in 2016. According to data from emoticon researchers, including emoticons in Facebook posts can increase the number of likes by 57% and the ‘Face with Tears of Joy’ is the most tweeted emoticon with over 16.5 billion tweets to date!
The game making process went on with the team pitching unique emoticons to add to the game and refining the process with the help of Microgaming’s Business Intelligence team. The slot became one of five winning ideas out of 27 put forward, then the journey from prototype to reality began.
EmotiCoins is now out and ready to delight players. The 30 payline game features bright graphics, a funky soundtrack and of course our favourite emoticons like Kiss and Winking Face. The game boasts two new wild features: Wild Blast and Wild Stickers. Wild Blast grants five extra wilds and a guaranteed win. Wild Stickers triggers 10 free spins to get the wins rolling in.
