Two superstitious sisters kept their faith with their lottery numbers, and each won £56, 520 in the national lottery, reports the Boston Standard.
Tina Thayne and Donna Taylor chose the numbers 20 years ago, when they created a family syndicate with their partners at the time. They selected the numbers by using a mini-bingo machine that Tina and her daughters had. The numbers were 03, 25, 33, 36, 42 and the bonus ball 14.
When this syndicate finished, the sisters decided to continue with the numbers, and being superstitious they feared changing them would bring them bad luck.
Last week, Donna, 51, woke up and checked the lottery numbers, discovering that she had five numbers. She knew that her sister Tina, 53, had the same line.
At first, Donna thought she had four numbers, which would have given her £1,500.
“I was shaking, I couldn’t believe it. I thought I’ve just got four numbers,” she said. “My husband said that’s £1,500 and then I realised I’d got the bonus ball.”
Her sister Tina was also surprised, especially since she had watched the draw live on television with her granddaughter Ruby before they watched Casualty.
She said: “I watched the first two numbers come up. I just didn’t think they were on the same line.
“I knew we’d got them somewhere but thought they were on different lines. We didn’t check the ticket, we just carried on watching.”
When the pair found out, they together called Camelot and discovered that another line had added £25 to their prize fund.
The sisters are now considering how best to spend their winnings, and are planning to have a big family party.
