New gambling restrictions will be enforced in the UK later this year, despite protests from the industry.
The UK Gambling Act will be implemented on October 1, the UK Gambling Commission has confirmed.
The Act will require gambling firms operating in the industry to submit an application to continue with their license by September 16.
Licence applications can be made via the Gambling Commission website.
The implementation of the Act comes despite heavy criticism from the Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association (GBLA), which pledged to challenge the new Act.
GBLA, which represents Gibraltar-based online gambling operators, said the Act would open up the UK markets to operators based anywhere in the world.
The GBLA added that it would effectively require UK regulators to police the gambling industry on a global scale.
The organisation has instructed law firm Olswang to contact UK Secretary for Culture, Media and Sport, Sajid Javid, attorney general Dominic Grieve and the UK Gambling Commission in order to voice their concerns with the legislation.
