If you want to bring this lady-like trend into your life, use it as an excuse to practice your old-fashioned manners like Maya Van Wagenen did. She’s the teenager that followed the advice in Betty Cornell’s Teenage Popularity Guide, a book that advised teens on how to become popular, in a bid to make friends at her new school. The result? She made a big splash at her school, and now she’s got a book deal. Not too bad for some old-school manners.
