Happiness is contagious for 60% of Brits, according to new research
More than 70% of Britons report being happy more often than not and almost two thirds (60%) say happiness is contagious as seeing someone happy makes them feel happy too – according to figures released today (Thursday 12 September) by twolittlefleas.co.uk.
The research has been released to mark the launch of twolittlefleas.co.uk’s ‘Happiness generator’, which aims to spread a little happiness: https://www.twolittlefleas.co.uk/happiness-generator/
The report shows that almost half (49.5%) of 1000 respondents strive to make other people happy, with almost to 3 out of 5 (58.1%) describing themselves as ‘glass half full’ people. Our partners have the biggest impact on our wellbeing, with 56% reporting that their marriage/relationship makes them happy.
Others things that makes us happy are holidays (55%), our children (48%) and sex (28% for women, 43% for men), while 1 in 4 say their car makes them happy. More than a third (42%) look to their pets for a pick me up and 42% find solace in their hobbies. Almost half of us (45%) say that where we live makes us feel happy.
But, while many of the factors that keep us smiling are at home or in leisure, more than a third of us (37%) long for a better work/life balance.
Savvas Fellas, CEO of Twolittlefleas.co.uk, said: “Our happiness survey shows that Brits are generally a happy bunch, despite popular misconception. That said, we all have our down days and that’s why we’ve created the Happiness Generator – have a go if you’re in the need of a little pick me up, or send it to a friend if you think it will make them smile. After all, happiness is contagious.”
Coming out on top of the happiness survey are the over 55s – 75% of whom give themselves at least 7 out of 10 on the happiness scale. Hobbies and sex are biggest happiness factors for 18-24 year olds (48% and 44% respectively) whereas as we get older (55+) holidays and our children bring us the most joy (64% and 59%).
