“It’s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife.” sang Alanis Morisette – but what if you have an abundance of old forks lying about? From the beautiful and (slightly) technical, to literal child’s play, here are four forking brilliant crafty ideas to ensure you make the absolute most out of your old cutlery!
1. Fork Coat Hooks
If you have a few clever, crafty bones in your body (and a few forks going spare), why not turn your old cutlery into brilliant, barmy coat hooks? You could even pick up an interesting assortment of forks at your local charity shop if you need more ingredients to play with! You’ll need some reasonably sophisticated kit to make these look really chic, but – for a basic hook – a pair of heavy duty pliers, an electric drill and some (all-important) safety goggles will do the trick! Here’s a handy how to to help you get started!
2. Fork Painting
Perfect for younger abstract artists, old forks make fantastic painting equipment, ideal for creating texture and crazy patterns! We’re absolutely head over heels with this cute little hedgehog; simply draw a hedgehog outline and let your creative genius do the rest. Forks also make great tulip flower prints too! Just add leaves and a stem. We strongly recommend putting a mat or a few layers of newspaper down before you get started – those forks can do damage to table tops in over-enthusiastic little mitts!
3. Fork Chandelier
A chandelier may be a bit ambitious, but look how amazing cutlery looks as hanging ceiling art! With a drill, a frame and a few flashes of clever cutlery inspiration, we bet you can tear yourselves away from your favourite no deposit bingo sites to create something forking amazing! Why not send us your ideas, inspirations and creations @twolittlefleas?
4. Fork Bangles
Love kooky jewellery? This is a fun project for crafty grown ups and older kids to try. You’ll need two pairs of pliers (one sturdy pair, one delicate needle-nosed pair), a fork and some elbow grease! Simply bend your fork by holding on tight with your sturdy pliers and shaping it to suit your style using the needle-nose pliers. You can find more instructions here.
