We might be on the other side of the winter solstice, but the nights still seem longer than the days. If you’re feeling crafty, you can easily fill those long evenings with these quick crafts. If you do, you’ll get new t-shirts, shelves, shoes and more while you pass a few minutes.
Make a wax paper stencil for clothes

This craft is easy to do, and you can make some cool gifts or personalised items of clothing. Take some plain coloured clothes you want to jazz up (like these babygros), some fabric paint and some wax paper to make the basic design. You’ll also need a craft knife, an iron and a sponge or sponge brush to make the design absolutely perfect. Best of all, you can use both the stencil and the bit you cut away to create two different designs that coordinate well. Get the full tutorial here.
Hang a really simple yard stick shelf

You’ll need a yard stick or some other lightweight, thin piece of moulding or wood, some wide ribbon and something to hold the ribbon to the wall. Make three equal sized loops from the ribbon, and hang them from the wall so that the nail or push pins that you use aren’t see from the front. Slip the yard stick in, and stabilise it against the wall so it lays flat. Then put very light objects, like the cards in this image, on the shelf and enjoy.
Create an adorable no-sew garland

If you follow the tutorial here, you can make this lovely garland just in time for Valentine’s Day. Otherwise, you can just enjoy a cute, easy to make garland all year round, since once you get the method down, you can customise the materials and shapes you use to suit all sorts of holidays and other occasions. This uses such normal, everyday materials that you could almost even make one from office supplies for a special office party.
Make some plain shoes spectacular

The tutorial here shows you how to zhush up your plain heels with some decorative elements you can buy from just about any crafting shop. The crafter here used elastic and ribbon to tie the feather element to her foot over the shoe, but depending on your shoe, you could glue the ribbon or decorative patch directly to it. Then it will feel like you have a brand new pair of shoes in just a few minutes.
Decoupage everything!

Decoupage is a great filler craft, as you don’t need much, other than paper, decoupage paint and a thing to cover. Just put it all together, and you’ll have a new vase, box, tray or whatever else.
These quick crafts are guaranteed to help you while away a bit of your long, dark winter evenings. So which crafts do you think you’ll do? And how do you pass the time during these long nights? Let us know below.
