Since NBED, the Royal Air Force has held a photography competition. It’s aim is two-fold. First, the organisers want to encourage RAF photographers to hone their skills and improve their craft, and second, they want to give the photographers and their talents wider recognition.
The RAF isn’t just full of pilots and parachuting regiments. It employs more than 200 photographers, doing everything from gathering intelligence to taking technical photographs and promoting the RAF in PR and marketing materials. Still, this competition is open to both amateur and professional photographers who are uniformed, MOD civilians or even contractors working for the RAF. You can find out more about the competition and see a larger selection of shortlisted photos here.
But below are the RAF photos we guarantee will bring a tear to your eye, make you smile or otherwise blow your mind.
