Now, we don’t like to get too technical and industry related at Online Bingo Finder, as we’re obviously too busy scouting around for the hottest promos and best new bingo sites instead. But every so often, there’s some news that comes along that we have to talk about – and the news that Costa Bingo’s parent company are launching their own bingo software is just one of those things. As more bingo brands become an all seeing, all knowing base for online bingo, what effects will this have on bingo fans?? Read on for the full scoop.
So, the news basically goes like this – Mandalay Gaming (the parent company of Costa Bingo) will be launching it’s own software, with a new bingo site, XBingo.com, the first to run with it. Promising a greater emphasis on social media, the software is aiming to rival other well-known products, such as the Dragonfish platform, which is incidentally used by Mandalay brands like Costa Bingo, Sing Bingo, City Bingo and Fancy Bingo.
See, what happens is that a bingo brand will decide to launch, often using software purchased from a gaming company. They can choose to be standalone (which means exclusive rooms for the site in question) or networked (whereby each site acts like a gateway into a bigger room filled with players from other bingo sites). So, by offering their own gaming software, what Mandalay could eventually do is cut out the middle man from their existing sites and at the same time offer a new gaming platform for bingo brands that are just starting out. Given that online bingo looks set to go a bit more global than just the UK, it makes sense they really have something to offer new bingo fans around the world. It’s a big step up for the company, which initially grew from being an online bingo portal to online bingo operator to a fully-fledged multi-functioning bingo company.
It’s definitely not the first time a bingo brand has launched it’s own software – players at Tombola Bingo may well be aware that Tombola runs as a totally independent bingo brand with in-house developed software that makes gaming at Tombola Bingo a little different from other places. And this is why the news could mean good things for bingo fans. Currently, there seems to be a bit of fatigue regarding certain bingo software (you can check out our report on it right here). By offering something a little different, online bingo players could find themselves with more choice of the good variety, rather than another bingo site that looks different, but is still the same old same old.
But it’s also a really good sign about what’s happening in online bingo right now. More and more bingo brands are starting to come together, which means that each bingo company needs to be bigger in order to survive. Bingo monopolies are starting to really become big news on the industry side of things – and as bingo fans, it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. On one hand, you’ve got bigger companies, which means bigger games. But this also means a much less competitive environment, with just a handful of operators dictating the rules. It’s a bit like supermarkets in a way. And so what does this mean for online bingo fans?? Well, watch this space, as things could get very interesting indeed.
