rebel bingoAt one time bingo was a game for blue rinsed old grannies who would meet up at their local bingo hall and put the world to rights whilst enjoying a nice cup of tea. Over the years though things have moved on and with modern technology we have seen bingo halls slowly being replaced with online bingo sites and with the lure of impressive promotions and the chance of winning life changing jackpots they have managed to attract a much younger and trendier audience.

Now though a group of bingo anarchists are fighting back, they are throwing away their laptops and smartphones and meeting up in the wee dark hours in deserted warehouses and the basement of the local church to enjoy a new game, a mutant bingo, a game that should not exist, a game that feels wrong with every fibre of their being but yet somehow feels right; This game is Rebel Bingo – The black sheep of the bingo family.

Rebel with a cause

Now you may be wondering why anyone would give up the comforts of the sofa for meeting in a cold and drafty run down building just to play bingo? Well think about it for a moment, bingo has always been about communities, ok we have swapped bingo halls for online chat rooms but the community feeling and the bingo buddies you make and the banter you enjoy is just as important as the actual games you play, online bingo would be a very boring game if you just sat there staring at the laptop screen with no interaction.

Rebel Bingo a genius idea, it combines our need for human interaction with the chance to win prizes but in an environment that feels more like a party; and let’s face it, the fact that it feels a big naughty makes it even more appealing because as we all know, if someone tells us we should not be doing something it just makes us want to do it more then ever, this is one of those little quirks we carry over from childhood!

International Rebels

Rebel Bingo is well organized too and they use the internet and social medial to attract new players from all of over the world. Rebel Bingo is now played in the UK, Brazil, Spain, Portugal and has even reached the shores of China and North America and each location has its own website, blog, YouTube channel and Twitter account and in the UK alone they have nearly 5,500 followers all waiting to spread the word.

If you go to a Rebel Bingo event don’t expect rows of neat tables and pots of dabbers or even a bingo caller up on a podium. Rebel Bingo is more like the raves of the early 90’s, rooms are packed with sweaty party goers, some wear their finest clubbing gear and others opting for fancy dress and painted faces, anything goes as long as everyone is having fun and you will usually find a live band or a DJ blasting the latest tunes to get everybody in the mood.

The rules…….

There are some rules to rebel bingo though but we promise you they are not too taxing; no old people, no boring people, no office parties, no hen parties, no stag parties, no work suits, no plain white t-shirts and no customer service but we have a feeling these are very tongue in cheek so if you are pensioner with a passion for dance music and bingo we are sure you will not be turned away at the door.

Rebel Bingo stress that they do not hold gambling events, they host club nights and live music nights with a bingo game thrown in as an added bonus, they say “You can win prizes, but this is not a gambling event. It’s a game of passion and skill. Stay focused. Play with honour. Or don’t play at all, and just party. It’s your choice. We’re a bit rebellious but we’re not like anarchists or anything. Anyway, the point is, you can win prizes. They are the sorts of things you don’t really think you’ll need – but when you see them you will want them more than anything you have ever wanted in your whole life and if you win them you will cry and your life will never be the same again.”

Rebel Sell out!

If you fancy becoming part of the Rebel Bingo movement you will need to head over to their website, sign up for the mailing list and then wait for the details of the next event to drop into your inbox but be warned they sell out fast. Rebel Bingo is returning to London on the 14th & 15th of September but have already completely sold out and with tickets costing just £6 each we are not really surprised.
