You might get excited about uncovering great new bingo sites, but your little ones are probably going to need a little more excitement to stay entertained this summer. Yet summertime fun can get costly. From trampolines and paddling pools to the latest outdoor toys and the coolest holidays, keeping the little blighters busy can give your budget a bashing. Fortunately, Two Little Fleas are riding to your rescue with 5 great ideas to help make fun frugal, if not totally free!
Build an Obstacle Course
Up! Down! Scramble! Hop! Crawl! Duck! Dive! There’s nothing that’s not ridiculously fun about a homemade obstacle course. It’s really fun to plan out, its super fun to put together and it’s awesome to race around – particularly when there’s a parent with a stopwatch nearby! You could even create a leader board, tin foil medals and a winners podium and turn it into a big event for the neighborhood kids.
Have a Water Fight
You might not have a swimming pool, or even the budget for a paddling pool or a slip’n’slide – but that doesn’t mean you can’t have free, splashy fun. You don’t even need water pistols for a brilliant water fight, try buckets, old window cleaner bottles with spray tops or even simple water bottles with holes in that you can squeeze and spray. The perfect free and fun way to keep cool on a summer’s day.
Hop on Public Transport
If you don’t have access to a car this summer, or don’t have any holidays planned, there’s loads you can see and do for next to nothing. Most public transport services have great family discounts to watch out for and on many buses, children ride for free! Keep your eyes peeled for your next big day trip to, well, anywhere your local services can carry you. Can anyone sing: “The wheels on the bus…”?
Build a Den
Whether it’s made of sticks and branches in the woods or made from floaty fabrics in the garden, all kids love a good den. With just a few bits and pieces you have hours of entertainment and building it all is the very best part! Free fun, wherever you are this summer!
Play DIY Garden Games
You don’t need a proper boules set to play a game of garden boules, and you don’t need a real croquet kit to enjoy a round of croquet. Instead, all you need are a few garage bits and pieces along with a little bit of imagination. If you have old baseball bats, cricket bats or even a few big sticks lying around, some garden wire you can bend into hoops, plus some tennis balls painted with distinctive colours – you have yourselves a game of croquet! Spiffing!
